On Wednesday, Michael Perham, a 14-year old from Britain, successfully completed his voyage across the Atlantic

Michael, who started sailing when he was 7 years, made it to the record books as the world’s youngest person to perform a solo trip. He surpassed the achievement of the previous holder, Seb Clover, who sailed to Antigua fromTenerife on January 2003 at age 15.

Aboard a modified yacht measuring 28 feet, Cheeky Monkey, Michael’s target was to finish the trip in four weeks but has to change course to Lanzarote and the Cape Verde Islands after encountering setback with his navigation paraphernalia.

Michael crossed 3,500 miles of open water from Gibraltar, with his father Peter in tow, in six weeks. He and his father was welcomed by his family and well-wishers. Michael felt elated and glad to be back on land safe.

"The worst bit was being away from my family and people generally. It was really a fantastic trip. I enjoyed almost every minute of it,” Michael said. “I am looking forward to a nice warm bed.”
