Mobile phone's link to cancer, disproved

General NewsA Danish research team found out that the use of cellular phones do not increase the risks of having cancer.

In a research conducted to 420,000 mobile users including about 52,000 who have been using cellular phones for more than ten years, scientists found out that there are not enough evidences to support earlier scientific hunches. Of the 420,000 users in Denmark, on 14,249 are diagnosed with cancer, lower than the 15,001 predicted national cancer rate.

These earlier hunches state that the electromagnetic frequency emitted by cell phones can penetrate the brain and eventually increase the risk of having cancer. They said that there are certain connections in the neck and head that receives radio frequency.

A lot of research similar to this one also found also no direct relation to cancer and cellular phones. Though the health officials also believe that the use of cellular phones have no adverse effects to human health, they still do not give mobile phones a clean bill of health.

However, even the leader of the Danish scientific group who conducted this study does not believe that this would not put an end to the long-running debate in the scientific community regarding the matter.

According to Joshua Muscat of Pennsylvania State University, the study is one of the best and most comprehensive papers out there that discusses the mobile-phone-cancer issue.

In connection to this study, the scientific group is planning to continue tracking cell phone users until some of their subjects use cellular phones for thirty years. This would add more credibility to their paper because if their observations continue to be successful, this would accumulate evidences to prove their conclusion.

The study is recently published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
