Yahoo Inc is set to launch its contribution to the fight against global warming Monday, called Yahoo Green.
Yahoo Green is an Internet portal that contains news and tips about how to deal with and prevent climate change. The project follows the company's April announcement that it would become carbon neutral by year end.
The country's largest Internet media firm has a 500 million global customer base monthly. Yahoo Green is meant to target United States residents initially, but will soon be widened to include other nations. Apart from the new website, Yahoo has already started going green internally by encouraging its employees to use energy-efficient lighting and taking public transportation to work.
A online contest to award ten hybrid Ford Escape taxis to a U.S. city that registers the most number of people signing up to its environmental pledge is under way. The Monday launch will be held at the Times Square, New York, where the first 150,000 participants will be given compact fluorescent lightbulbs for free.
