The Hewlett-Packard Technology Forum, which features over 87 user training sessions, was organized in recognition of the popularity and complication of virtualization, and is expected to draw over 7,000 attendees.
IT managers consider virtualization as complex since they may not be prepared for it, possibly resulting in the reduction of anticipated return of investment despite its appeal in the efficient use of IT resources.
Virtualization can reduce the number of computers needed by allowing a single physical server to simultaneously run multiple software applications, however, this does not mean that it shrinks the management duties proportionately.
Director of product management at C.A. Peter Richardson found that virtualization does not reduce staff because, even if it is virtual, server sprawl continues.
Senior analyst with Enterprise Management Associates Andi Mann believes that although there are a few virtualizatin management software products out there, there is still a lack in a full cohesive virtual management suite.
Chairman of the IT User Group, and vice president of IT at Sabre Holdings Corp., Scott Healy hopes that the HPTC forum will be able to answer a lot of questions from HP customers, as well as IT managers who have concerns about balancing virtualization’s impact and application.
