Bush Approves US-Mexico Security Fence

U.S. President George Bush signed a controversial bill Thursday authorizing a 700 mile (1,120 kilometer) long security fence along the American-Mexican border.

At the signing ceremony of the law Bush asserted that the United States had, unfortunately, not been in complete control of its borders for decades and therefore illegal immigration had been on the rise. Mexico, however, described the law as “a big mistake.”

Every year nearly 500,000 Mexicans and Latin Americans reportedly enter the country illegally and it is estimated that nearly a total of 11 million illegal immigrants reside in the country.
