 Shops destroy Santas giving "Hitler salute". After customers complained that the Santa Claus figures in several German shops looked like they were doing the stiff-armed Hitler salute, owners removed them from the shelves and destroyed them afterwards. Hitler salute is outlawed in the area.
In an interview with Josef Lange, spokesman for the Rossman chain, he said that he was shocked that people saw that hand gesture in Santa Claus. He did not expect that the customers would be as sensitive and as observant regarding the figurines of Father Christmas.
Apparently, they did not intend this to happen and said that the figure simply shows Santa pointing something to the sky while holding his gift sack in his left hand.
However, to respond to the reaction of the customers, they destroyed the entire inventory and had them removed completely.
