MANATEE –Officials of Sarasota Bradenton International Airport announces that they have been selected by Commercial Service Airport of the Year by the Florida Department of Transportation. Officials of the Department of Transportation presented their aviation award as their second.

Some of its qualification as presented by the department of transportation is its fool-proof safety inspection performed by the Federal Aviation Administration in November. State saviation manager for the department William Ashbaker states that they employ security improvements worth $5 million specifically for their main runway rehabilitation project. Along with this is SRO has also successfully pulled in carriers AirTran Airways and JetBlue Airways.

SRQ passengers have increased by 11.82% last year based on the statistics by SRQ. They have served 1,518,671 passengers by June at the end of a year. The statistics also showed an increase of 42.97% on passenger traffic compared with its performance in 2003.

SRQ’s President and Chief Executive Officer Fredrick Piccolo considers this a manifestation of their hard work for utmost service to their clients.
