Emirates Airline Eyes Miami Market

Miami International Airport is targeting Dubai for new service and is offering incentives to carriers on the route. Emirates executives too have Miami in their sights as a lucrative tourist and investment destination.

The Emirates also is looking to hire more U.S. pilots and will be recruiting pilots at the Wyndham Miami Airport Hotel on Oct. 27 and 28.

According to Nigel Page, senior vice president of commercial operations for the Americas for Emirates, they are promoting the fast-growing Dubai-based airline, which is expanding flights to both North and South America this year. The Gulf-based airline, Page adds, is also keen on adding new routes, in particular Houston to Dubai, which they will start to offer starting December. Other major routes such as routes out of Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Dubai, and Toronto will begin on Oct. 29.

Miami, Page notes, is certainly in the framework of points that the airline is thinking of operating to. The major constraint for now, however, is aircraft, and the delivery of new ones. By 2008, Page adds, Emirates will acquire 22 new wide-body jets, to help them expand the network.
