Claudia Roth, the Chairperson of Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance at the European Parliament (EP), will hold official talks in Turkish capital of Ankara on May 17th.
Roth told Turkish reporters that she wanted to closely monitor reforms in Turkey, and meet non-governmental organizations as well as officials.
Stating that some circles thought that Turkey had slowed down implementation of reforms, Roth said that she would also hold talks regarding measures taken against torture.
Roth noted that she would meet Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul and Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu, and said, "I will discuss Cyprus and Armenian problems with Gul. Mr. Erdogan's (Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan) statement that Turkey has opened its archives, and that Turkey is ready to discuss this matter is a positive step."
Claudia Roth added that she would discuss citizenship issue with Aksu.
