One of the other members of the group was also buried, but managed to dig his way to safety.
The body of a Russian tourist killed in an avalanche in eastern Turkey has been recovered by a Turkish search and rescue team Wednesday.
The man, whose name has not been released, was killed when he was buried in the avalanche while snowboarding at the Palandoken resort in the eastern Turkish province of Erzurum. According to Erzurum’s deputy governor, Aslan Karanfil, the 18 year old’s body was found under 10 metres of snow. The deputy governor said that the dead man and four companions had been snowboarding in an area that was out of bounds. “We believe the group triggered the avalanche by practising on snow not ripe for skiing in the banned area,” he said.
